Fire investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency were at the scene Monday to determine the cause and origin of the Sunday evening fire that destroyed the detachment in the community about 60 kilometres east of Swift Current.

In a news release, the RCMP states at this stage of the investigation, it is not believed the fire is suspicious in nature.

The RCMP thanked the Morse Fire Department and the many community members who came together and worked so hard through the evening to fight the blaze,” said Jill McLaren, Saskatchewan RCMP South District Operations Officer.

The Morse Fire Department was dispatched to the scene just after six o’clock on Sunday evening.

“After having some hydrant issues, we made calls to our local farmers,” the department said in a social media post Monday morning. “We truly couldn’t have done it without their help.” The fire was brought under control late Sunday night, with firefighters remaining on scene into Monday morning to monitor hot spots.

Morse RCMP will continue to police communities in the detachment areas, with the ongoing support of Swift Current Rural RCMP Detachment.
