A man has been charged after RCMP said he stole a vehicle, evaded police and assaulted a person in the Onion Lake area.
Wednesday around 6:35 a.m., Maidstone RCMP and EMS responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway #17, approximately one kilometre south of Sandy Beach.
An investigation determined that after the rollover, the driver stole a truck from a passerby, and it fled south on Highway #17. After that Onion Lake RCMP were called to assist.
RCMP say the truck then fled from police after being located. A short while later, the man abandoned the truck at a business in Onion Lake and allegedly assaulted someone at the business in an attempt to steal their vehicle. Officers arrived and arrested Garrett Stanley. He appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Thursday.
The passenger of the vehicle in the rollover stayed at the scene and was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening in nature
Lloydminster RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team, and Lloydminster RCMP’s Police Dog Services assisted in the investigation as well.
25-year-old Garrett Stanley from Onion Lake has been charged with:
- one count, robbery
- one count, theft of truck
- one count, assault on peace officer with weapon/causing bodily harm
- one count, taking motor vehicle with consent of owner
- one count, operation while impaired of a motor vehicle
- one count, operation while prohibited
- one count, aggravated assault
- one count, flight from peace officer
- one count, fail to comply with release order condition
- one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle
