Saskatchewan Premier says Canada has to get to the negotiating table to get ahead of tariffs

Saskatchewan’s Premier addressed the US tariff threats ahead of this week’s Council of the Federation meetings.

Canadians were hit with the announcement Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump would be imposing a new 50 per cent tariff on Canada.

Scott Moe explained that the tariffs will cause the cost of things to increase for both Canadian and American families.

“We have 30 days until they come into effect. We’ve seen the president walk back some of his previous tariffs as well in that time period. This is a prime time for Canada to be very ambitious in getting to that negotiating table and advancing that review of this trade deal.”

Moe explained that now is the time for Canada to be ambitious about negotiations. The premier also added that the path forward is at the negotiation table, not on social media.

The Premier made his comments in Charlottetown on Tuesday.
