As part of its annual safety and integrity program, SaskEnergy is inspecting approximately 20,000 kilometres of natural gas lines across Saskatchewan. The Crown Corporation says the inspections are part of the ongoing work to keep nearly 88,000 kilometres of infrastructure operating safely and effectively and to prevent potential service disruptions before they occur.
As part of these efforts, SaskEnergy’s replaces approximately 2,400 older service connections at homes and businesses each year to enhance safety and system reliability. This work takes place between May and October each year.
SaskEnergy’s Interim President and CEO Cory Frei (fry) says, “Safety is a top priority at SaskEnergy, which is why service upgrades and system inspections are a key part of the system integrity work we plan and execute every year.”
With SaskEnergy technicians and representatives inspecting natural gas lines in alleys, easements, and near property lines in communities throughout Saskatchewan, residents may see crews working in their neighborhoods and, in some cases, may need to provide access to yards or gas meters.
