The Western College of Veterinary of Medicine (WCVM) will accept wildlife for treatment after August 18th while an ongoing program review continues.
The original plan was to put those treatments in limbo after a nearly month-long scheduled closure that starts next Wednesday.
However, a strong lobbying effort by wildlife groups and veterinary students has changed those plans. A July 17 news release indicates the treatment of injured wildlife will continue until the review is complete in November.
Jan Shaddick is the executive director of Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation.
Shaddick hopes the WCVM will keep an open mind during the review process.
Shaddick believes the biggest hurdle for the WCVM is the lack of a “revenue stream” to treat injured wildlife. She hopes some ideas can be developed during the review process so the services can remain for the animals and provide valuable training for students.
