Relief pitchers lived up to that name for the Saskatoon Berries Tuesday night in a 7-4 victory over the Lethbridge Bulls at Cairns Field.
Dallen Rude, Brooks Jones (pictured) and Tyler Bailey combined to hold Lethbridge without a hit over the final four-and-two-thirds innings after taking over from starter Zachary Landreville. Jones retired all six batters he faced and was credited with the pitching victory. Meanwhile, Saskatoon’s offence was relentless – producing two hits in each of the first seven innings and the seven runs needed to record their fifth straight win. Right fielder Gael Salinas had three hits and scored the go-ahead, 5-4 run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. Shortstop Brock Laird drove in two more runs in the seventh inning with a double, his fourth hit of the night in front of 1,666 fans. Laird extended his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games, as did right fielder Ethan Murdoch – who, earlier Tuesday, was named the W-C-B-L’s Saskatchewan Player-of-the-Week. The 26-11 Berries kept pace with Moose Jaw, tied for first place in the East Division. Saskatoon hosts the 22-11 Bulls again on Tuesday at 7 o’clock. Following are Les Lazaruk’s post-game interviews with head coach Joe Carnahan, Jones and Laird…..
