The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) examined a single vehicle rollover that claimed the life of a 31-year old man in Moose Jaw on November 7, 2024.
Late that evening, Moose Jaw Police received a call that a silver Honda was driving erratically and chasing the caller’s vehicle. It was later determined the events were preceded by a physical altercation.
The police officer observed the vehicle heading north on Main Street at a high rate of speed. He turned to follow the vehicle with the emergency equipment activated. Shortly after, the silver Honda crashed on Main Street. A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead-on-the-scene. The driver and passenger were transported to hospital for assessment and treatment.
SIRT says it was clear the occupants of the car were actively attempting to evade police. The officer followed the vehicle at a distance in order to warn other vehicles of the risk posed by the speeding vehicle.
