Whether you’re a classic car enthusiast or just have an appreciation for meticulous restoration, you’re invited to check out Brits by the Bess on Sunday.
President of the Saskatchewan British Car Club, Bob Burnyeat, says the event has been running for about 20 years, and the club’s largest event of the year.
There will be between 75 and 80 British Cars of all makes, models, and years being driven in by their owners from as far away as Calgary. The cars will be lined up in front of the Bessborough Hotel from 11:00-4:00.
“These cars, they all have stories. Somebody found it in a barn somewhere and fixed it up, or it’s somebody’s dad’s dar and they had it handed down to them and they rejuvenated it and brought it back. The stories are half the fun.”
He adds that people can scan a QR code beside each car to learn their story, or you can chat with the owner, who might even let you sit inside the car and get your picture taken.
“I had a fella a couple years ago. I had an old MG-A. He came by and was just staring wistfully at his car, and he said, ‘oh man, I had one of these when I was younger. So, I let him sit in it and I took his phone and got a picture, and he was thrilled. It was just like being back in his teenage days.”
Burnyeat says the event is free, but they will have a raffle with proceeds supporting Haven House for Kids in Saskatoon and Transition House in Regina.
