If you run into trouble with the law, you may notice that Saskatchewan RCMP officers have a new look.
Starting this month, frontline Saskatchewan RCMP officers will start wearing new navy-blue uniform shirts. They are joining Prince Edward Island and other provinces as the scheduled rollout proceeds across the country.
A release from the RCMP says the new shirts are an effort to modernize the RCMP uniform which began last fall. However, officers may still be seen wearing their old, grey uniform shirts for the foreseeable future. The RCMP understands that seeing a new uniform colour may cause confusion, and that there have been incidents of individuals impersonating police.
Because of this, if you ever have any concerns about the identity of the police officer you are interacting with, ask the officer for identification.
RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme says what’s more, is that the shirts are now available in a female fit version for the first time ever. The shirts are also made “from more modern materials that enhance comfort and adaptability in different environments.”
