The Persons Living with AIDS Network of Saskatchewan group is holding a National HIV Testing Day block party in the 100 Block of Avenue D North tomorrow (Friday).

The party is at 127 Avenue D North. The block will be closed from 11am to 2pm for the party. The party will have a free BBQ, a live DJ, other organizations and community vendors, and an SHA van that is able to provide STBBI testing. The event is intended to promote education and awareness around HIV.

Christine Daniels, the Executive Director of Persons Living with AIDS Network of Saskatchewan, explained how the stigma surrounding HIV is one of the biggest barriers for testing.

“HIV effects everyone. Everyone that is sexually active or is sharing needles should be getting tested. HIV can be present without symptoms for years. The only way to know your HIV status is to get tested, and early diagnosis allows people to start treatment sooner and stay healthy.”

Daniels noted people living with HIV and are on effective treatment can live long healthy lives. HIV testing kits can be located on the public health website.
