Saskatchewan RCMP seized five firearms during a weapons investigation near Estevan.
Estevan Police Service contacted RCMP on June 3rd about a male in the area who was allegedly in possession of a stolen prohibited firearm.
The RCMP obtained a search warrant and executed it at a rural residence in the RM of Estevan on June 8. During their search police say officers located and seized four firearms and ammunition. They also located a handheld item that officers believed could be an explosive device. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) safely evaluated and removed the device and determined the item was an empty casing and did not consist of explosive materials.
A man was arrested at the home and as a result of their investigation, RCMP then seized a prohibited firearm at a home in Frobisher. Investigators determined the firearm, previously reported as stolen in the City of Estevan, was illegally sold.
Twenty-three-year-old Jared Brailean from Hitchcock is charged with four counts each possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, and unsafe storage of firearms. He’s also charged with one count each of possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000 and weapons trafficking.
Carnduff/Estevan RCMP were assisted in the investigation by the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Yorkton Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT) and Critical Incident Response Team.
