The Oxbow area was hit by a tornado with numerous photos and videos posted and one site indicated at least one farm suffered severe damage. Some locations in southeast Saskatchewan have had three storm warnings over the past four days.
The Northern Tornadoes Project says at this time it can confirms three tornadoes: Hirsch, Saskatchewan on June 7th with a preliminary rating of EF1; Oxbow, Saskatchewan on June 9th; and Ste. Anne, Manitoba also on Tuesday.
Erin Brown took video of the tornado near Oxbow yesterday evening which he suggests stayed on the ground for five to 10 minutes. He said “It’s something to stand back to hear birds singing and being so quiet and serene where we were on the edge of the valley knowing full well that what I’m taking a video of or pictures of is so incredibly violent and dangerous. You don’t think about it until you’ve stopped taping and go – wow – you know and find out there was a farm destroyed by it – it really makes you take a step back.”
Brown believes while he was taking that video a nearby family suffered catastrophic damage to their farmyard. “I’m glad everybody is safe where it did hit. I feel extremely sorry for those that can’t find their pets, lost their home – it’s a terrible thing,” he explained there’s nothing left for the family devastated by the twister.
The Oxbow area resident says there was a very violent storm that also came through Sunday night damaging Oxbow businesses and homes including his home. He says, “Everybody’s been heightened, watching the radar.” Sunday night he and his family took refuge in the basement.
