Saskatchewan RCMP are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with two shootings that occurred Monday afternoon in the northern community located more than five hours northeast of Saskatoon.
A 28-year-old woman from Pelican Narrows died, while a man is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators believe there was an altercation at a residence involving a group of people who knew each other. The woman was shot at the residence while the man was injured minutes later on the road near the local health clinic. It has been confirmed the altercation did not occur at the health clinic.
A suspect was arrested on Monday evening, but that person has been released without being charged.
RCMP have released a short video of a person running down a road. The suspect appears to be a male, wearing all black and carrying a handgun and a cellphone. There is an increased RCMP presence in the northern community and investigators hope to receive tips from the public. Pelican Narrows is located more than five hours northeast of Saskatoon.

Update on investigation into shooting in Pelican Narrows

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) continues to actively investigate the June 1 shooting in Pelican Narrows that resulted in the death of one individual, and serious injury to another.
The deceased has been identified as a 28-year-old female from Pelican Narrows. We are not releasing her name at this time. Her family has been notified and victim services have been provided to them.
The injured is an adult male. His injuries are now considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.
HIU officers are in Pelican Narrows speaking to witnesses and gathering evidence.
Investigators believe an altercation occurred at a residence between a group of individuals known to one another. The female was injured at a residence on Chachakew Street, then the male was injured minutes later, on the road that is in proximity to the local health clinic.
Investigators have confirmed the altercation did not occur in the clinic. Saskatchewan RCMP issued a dangerous person alert in relation to this incident as initial information indicated it occurred at the clinic and it was possibly random in nature. The alert has since been cancelled. Investigators are constantly reassessing this situation. At this time, there is not believed to be an imminent risk to public safety.
An individual was arrested on June 1, as initial investigation provided grounds for their arrest. After investigators gathered more evidence, the individual was released without charge.
Investigators have obtained video of a suspect in this shooting. The suspect is described as a male, who was wearing all black and was carrying a handgun and a cellphone.
We are releasing video of the suspect to further the investigation.
“We know the community of Pelican Narrows is on edge because of this shooting, and other recent violent events,” says Insp. Ashley St. Germaine, acting officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch.
“Our number one priority right now is the safety of Pelican Narrows residents. Homicides are solved with the help of witnesses. We know there are people in the community who have information and have not shared it with police. If you do – or if you recognize the suspect in this video – please call police or report what you know to Crime Stoppers immediately. Help us bring this person into custody, ease community fears, and start the justice process for those affected by this crime.”
Residents of Pelican Narrows will notice a continued increased police presence in the community. Investigators thank community members for their patience with the increased police presence, and all who have provided information to them.
There have been no further incidents reported to police believed to be connected to the June 1 shooting.
