It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots…..
And, just like that, the Saskatoon portion of Saskatchewan Roughriders’ training camp is done! I am sad to say that I never made it out once to Griffiths Stadium, due to work and home circumstances. I was off all of last week, which would have been a good time to take in a session or two but, alas, it was clean up time around my casa and I put a big dent in the “Honey do list!” When rookie camp was on or during this short week of camp, I was unable to attend because my morning’s in the office are crazy busy. Between crafting a daily sports schedule, this Parting Shot commentary and sports reports for Noon for both CJWW and our FM outlets – then voicing that commentary and CJWW Noon sports, I’m pretty much taken through to Noon, by which time the on-field session is done and the interview period is nearly so! Plus, I’m asked to do news as part of my responsibilities now, which is pretty hilarious since I’ve been in the Toy Department for almost 47 years now, between radio announcing and newspaper writing and feel like a fish out of water reading and writing the news. But, I’m told I sound good, so I guess I’ve fooled some people!!
Having said all that, I feel bad for not being able to stop in to Rider camp and see brilliant play-by-play voice and former CJWW colleague Dave Thomas, plus the team’s Communications boss Arielle Zerr and team historian Rob Vanstone. My apologies folks, but duty calls!!
I’m not one of these people, but if you’re an auto racing enthusiast, this is your weekend! Saskatchewan International Raceway is on tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. It’s opening day tomorrow at Sutherland Automotive Speedway. Then, Sunday, a triple-header of big events with F-1’s Canadian Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca Cola 600 – the latter event will be a bit muted with the surprising and tragic death of Kyle Busch yesterday! Nonetheless, it is your weekend auto racing buffs – enjoy!!
And, here’s fair warning for any of you who will be on the course at the Willows tomorrow, especially between 10 a.m. and about 2 to 2:30 p.m. – so will I be attempting to bat the little white ball around as few times as I can and with as few penalty strokes as possible! The latter is what gets me most of the time!!
The best and great news for everyone, the weather is going to co-operate and it’ll be time to bear my shiny, white legs to the world! Wear sunglasses if you’re near me!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
