Health Canada says nine people with connections to the outbreak of Andes strain of hantavirus are currently located in Canada, including six passengers and three people who weren’t onboard but may have been exposed to hantavirus on flights.
The Andes strain is a type of hantavirus known to be capable of transmission between humans.
The World Health Organization recommends a quarantine period of 42 days because hantaviruses have been known to incubate for up to eight weeks but on average, it usually takes two to three weeks from becoming infected to showing symptoms.
There is no vaccine for the disease.
