The Ministery of Health has issued an overdose alert for Regina after the city’s fire department reported an elevated and increasing number of overdoses.
A provincial release says between April 1 and April 21, there have been 140 overdose-related calls, and many of them required multiple doses of naloxone to be administered.
The release says multiple calls have resulted in unconsciousness, and cardiac arrest, requiring CPR and advanced emergency medical treatment.
Several samples of the unknown drug were tested by Regina’s equivalent to Prairie Harm Reduction, Newo-Yotina, and it tested positive for fentanyl and benzodiazepines.
The overdose alert expires on April 29 .
