A provincial cabinet shuffle was announced on Thursday morning, including a change in the agriculture portfolio.
Farm organizations and farmers are very familiar with the new Agriculture Minister and Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Crop Insurance. David Marit held both cabinet posts for six years before becoming Highways Minister in November 2024 shortly after the Saskatchewan Party was re-elected for a fifth consecutive term. The former Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison remains the MLA for Cannington in the southeast and is expected to serve as a chair of a legislative committee.
Marit told reporters after the cabinet swearing-in ceremony that he was honoured and humbled to return to the Agriculture Ministry. He adds that stakeholders in the agriculture sector know who he is and that he has had good working relationships with farm organizations over the years.
The new Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture is James Thorsteinson, MLA for Cut Knife-Turtleford. Thorsteinson was first elected one year ago and his biography says he is a third-generation rancher who has also done contract work in the oilfield.
Warren Kaeding remains as the Minster of Trade and Export Development. Brad Crasweller, MLA for White City-Qu’Appelle, is the Legislative Secretary responsible for Saskatchewan-India relations as well as the Government Whip.
The main cabinet portfolios remained unchanged—-Finance, Health, Education, Justice and the Crown Investments Corporation.
