The community of Bruno is coming together after a devastating house fire left Joey Sallos and his young family without their home and most of their belongings. Though they have secured temporary accommodations, nearly all of their personal items were lost in the blaze.
With no family in the province and the holiday season quickly approaching, friends, coworkers, and neighbours are hoping to bring comfort and stability to the family as they begin to rebuild. The appeal for support is being coordinated by Nikki Unger and Joey’s employer, Onix Mechanical, who are asking residents across the region to help however they can.
“This heartbreaking event comes just before the holidays,” Unger said in the appeal. “We’re especially hoping to rally around them and offer some comfort during what should be a joyful season.”

A Community Known for Its Heart
Organizers say the response so far reflects what Bruno and the surrounding region are known for—supporting neighbours in crisis.
“Thank you for showing what our small, caring community is all about,” the appeal says.
Residents who are able to contribute are encouraged to do so, as even small gestures can make a significant difference for a family starting over from scratch.
