Because total snow accumulation in Saskatoon exceeded five centimetres, contractor crews will now join City snow maintenance equipment to clear roads starting with Priority one streets like Circle Drive, Idylwyld Drive, 22nd Street and College Avenue.
Eight plows and 26 graders are clearing these roads while 20 sanding trucks continue treating slippery sections to support safer travel. Four sidewalk plows are also clearing city facility sidewalks, Meewasin Trail, pathways along freeways and arterials as well as bridge and overpass walkways.
There is a snowfall warning in place in southwest Saskatchewan including the RM of Maple Creek and Cypress Hills Provincial Park where heavy snow will continue throughout the day. Up to 15 centimetres of snow is expected Thursday on top of the ice and snow that kicked off the week in southern Saskatchewan.
The vast majority of highways in southern Saskatchewan as well as portions of the Trans-Canada Highway are reporting covered or partly covered with snow, swirling snow and ice.
