The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has made an arrest in connection to the shooting of a woman who was passenger in a Ford Explorer near Weyburn September 12th.
RCMP have charged 42-year-old Chris Fahlman with manslaughter with firearm, careless use of a firearm, carry a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, occupy a motor vehicle knowing there is a firearm inside.
Tanya Myers was a passenger in one of two vehicles that were struck by bullets while travelling on Highway #39 near Weyburn. There was a second vehicle also hit by gunfire around the same time on September 12. The driver told RCMP they heard two pops that sounded like rocks hitting the windshield but there was no damage to any windows. The next day the person noted their SUV tire was flat. The SUV’s tire was examined by an RCMP forensic expert, and it was determined the tire was damaged by a gunshot. Investigators said the SUV was traveling a close distance behind the Ford Explorer, passed it and continued towards Weyburn after the incident occurred.
RCMP Senior Investigative Officer Ashley St. Germaine says over one month of investigation led to Fahlman’s arrest during a traffic stop in Regina on Saturday morning.
Although she could confirm that the victim and the suspect were not known to each other, details as per what Fahlman’s intentions were that September day were unable to be disclosed.
“In order to protect that investigational integrity along with the court process, I can’t speak specifically to what he was doing that day.”
Fahlman, avid hunter and owner of Fahlman’s Home Inspections in Qu’Appelle, made his first court appearance Monday morning before being remanded into custody until Tuesday.
Chris Guerette is the CEO of the Saskatchewan Realtors Association. She says, “Chris Fahlman was a business parter, and because of the charges laid by the RCMP that came to light this morning, we have thus utilized the section of our contract to terminate that contract.” This means that he will no longer be able to access homes through the SRA’s lockbox services.
On September 13th, the day after the incident, Falhman took to Facebook to repost the RCMP’s public call-out for information, stating that the situation was ‘absolutely disgusting’ followed by “What is this world coming to?”
He made his first court appearance on Monday before being remanded into custody until Tuesday.
