A man from Leask is facing 23 charges following an incident involving a camper trailer.
On October 15 at 1:00 a.m., Ahtahkakoop RCMP received a report of a suspicious trailer on Mistawasis First Nation. As officers approached, a vehicle parked nearby began driving erratically, evading a traffic stop, and eventually colliding with a police vehicle before speeding away. No officers were injured.
The camper was determined to be stolen, and officers seized three rifles, a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition from inside it.
RCMP then received a report of a robbery in the RM of Leask. Investigation determined the same suspect had assaulted a man and stole a truck earlier on. The victim reported non-life-threatening injuries to police.
The stolen truck was located again by police. It drove over an RCMP tire deflation device before pulling into a nearby field. The occupants attempted to flee on foot but were arrested with the help of police dogs.
Now, 28-year-old Eldon Johnstone and a 25-year-old woman from Blaine Lake have been charged.
Ahtahkakoop RCMP continue to investigate.
