As the winter months approach, SGI is reminding drivers to prepare their vehicles for upcoming snowy conditions.
SGI Media Relations Manager Heather Hubic says one of the best ways to prepare your vehicle for winter is to get winter tires put on.
“They’re more flexible in the cold temperatures and they have a deeper tread that’s better at clearing away the snow as the tire rotates. So we do recommend the use of winter tires and we know that those tire shops start to get booked up this time of year, so planning ahead and making sure your vehicle is ready to go in and those winter tires are ready to be swapped on now is good to start thinking about it before that snow hits and it’s a little too late.”
Along with winter tires, Hubic recommends keeping helpful items packed in your vehicle, such as a snow brush, ice scraper, shovel, and an emergency kit in case you get stuck during the winter.
“Some of the things you can include in that emergency kit in your vehicle are warm clothes, a blanket, traction mats, booster cables, a flashlight, some nourishing food and a cellphone charger cable. All of those things can come in handy in an emergency.”
She adds that SGI’s website and social media pages are meant to help drivers that have any questions or concerns about driving in winter conditions.
“Our website has a lot of really great information on navigating those winter roads so you can go to sgi.sk.ca for more information. You can also follow us on our social media channels, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter. We share tips throughout the winter months there as well.”
Along with their socials, SGI recommends checking road conditions on Highway Hotline before heading on a trip. Highway Hotline can be found on the CJWW website.
