A woman and a man were arrested by Turtleford RCMP and other Saskatchewan RCMP personnel following the pursuit of a stolen truck last week.
The incident began at about 8 a.m. on October 15th when Turtleford RCMP responded to a report of a stolen truck in the town of Mervin. Responding officers located the truck parked outside a business on Thunderchild First Nation. When police attempted a traffic stop, the truck fled. A few hours later, around 1 a.m. on October 16th, the Turtleford detachment received a report of a truck driving erratically on Thunderchild First Nation, matching the description of the truck they had seen earlier. Officers responded again and located the truck parked outside a home and when police approached the truck took off at high speed. It entered a field where it became disabled. The two suspects exited the truck and fled on foot to a nearby treed area.
The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, Critical Incident Response Team and drones were used to eventually track down the male suspect in the treed area and the female suspect in a nearby residence.
Thirty-year-old Harley Soare of North Battleford is charged with one count each of flight from peace officer and possession of property obtained by crime over five-thousand dollars. And 25-year-old Dakota Frenchman of Thunderchild First Nation is charged with two counts resist/obstruct peace officer and one count each of fail to comply with release order condition and weapons possession contrary to order. Both Soare and Frenchman were arrested on outstanding warrants from Turtleford RCMP. They made their first appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Monday.
