Saskatoon is getting a little bit greener Saturday thanks to a team of 140 volunteers.
To celebrate National Tree Day and National Forest Week, Tree Canada is joining the group to plant 400 trees and shrubs on 14th Street East in Saskatoon.
Tree Canada Communications Director Robert Henri says there are4 countless benefits of urban forests, including their ability to enhance biodiversity, provide wildlife habitat, and combat climate change. Trees also help cool urban areas, especially those with more pavement than vegetation.
Henri says Saskatoon is just one of 22 cities across Canada hosting a similar event.
“We’re expecting over 2200 people to come out and volunteer to plant trees with their families, with their friends, and coworkers. It’s just a really fun day. You leave feeling like you’ve accomplished something.”
The planting will take place between 1:00 and 3:00. Those who live in the area are welcome to stop by and plant some trees, as well.
