It’s my Parting Shot for a second straight day of T-F-P, this time with Week 16 C-F-L picks…..
I’m happy for one thing after last week – the Saskatchewan Roughriders are on their third and final bye of the season because, despite their 10-3 record, they have confounded me with their week-to-week performance. Then again, so have all nine teams in the league! Off we go to tonight…
…and the opening game of the Friday Night Football doubleheader as Montreal visits Toronto. With the last six teams all within two games of each other, every game is huge! This one is very close to call, but I’m taking the Alouettes by less than a field goal because I think McLeod Bethel-Thompson – inconsistent as he is prone to be – is better suited to win than Jarret Doege in his first start for the Argos!
Tonight’s nightcap is B-C at Calgary. The Stampeders had the bye last week and should be re-energized to take a run at the Green and White for first place in the West following the Riders’ loss to Montreal. The Lions are dangerous, but in the battle for a playoff spot. This is another game likely to go down to the final minute and I’m taking the Stamps by less than a field goal!
Saturday’s first game is Winnipeg at Ottawa. The Bombers are sliding with three straight losses and Zach Collaros out of the line-up while the RedBlacks are in desperate need of a win, holding the league’s worst record. Remember early in the season when I said streaks of three games or more are liable to be broken as soon as possible. Even with Chris Streveler at quarterback, Winnipeg comes through tonight by less than a field goal!
The week ends with Edmonton at Hamilton. The Tiger-Cats seem to have found their mo-jo again after a bit of a mid-season funk and have a solid lead atop the East Division. The Elks have brought themselves back into post-season contention, but last week’s loss in Toronto was a tough pill to swallow – and they have to pass at least two teams to get to the playoffs. This result won’t help – Hamilton by more than two touchdowns!
I was 2-2, again, last week. The season record is 32-26 as the percentage keeps slipping slowly downwards – now at 55.2 per cent!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
