The family of a Weyburn woman killed in a shooting on Friday is demanding justice for the loss of their loved one. 

 On Friday at 8:00p.m., Tanya Myers was riding in the passenger seat of a Ford Escape on Highway 39 about three kilometres west of Weyburn when two gunshots were heard, one of which ended up taking her life. The driver was not injured, however a second vehicle, following close behind the Ford Escape, was also shot and received a flat tire.  

 The officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Superintendent Joshua Graham says the public is asked to stay vigilant, as it cannot be determined whether the shooting was random, targeted, accidental, or on purpose. In response to a question from the media, he says it’s even possible that the shots were fired from a moving vehicle. 

“We’re looking into all those types of possibilities, and really, we won’t know until our forensic experts have been able to examine the physical evidence to determine that. At this point, we’re open to those possibilities.” 

A statement from her family assures that the event must have been random.  

“She did not have anything to do with the way she left us,” the statement read. “To the person or persons responsible, please grow a conscience and take responsibility for your actions.” 

 The statement continues that Tanya rarely left home, as she made a point of staying close to ger nine cats.   

 “The loss of Tanya leaves a giant gaping hole in our lives, and in her cats’ lives, who are wondering where their mom has gone.”
