Those wanting to get some exercise while also supporting cancer research are invited to downtown Saskatoon tomorrow for the 45 Annual Terry Fox Run.
Anthony Wood, Media Coordinator for the Saskatoon event, says the fundraising amounts coming in are well-exceeding previous years, which may be driven by the fact that it’s the 45th year since Terry made the trek himself.
Saskatoon and area have generated $60,855 so far, all of which is going towards cancer research. Last year, Saskatoon generated about $47,000 for the cause. This year’s goal was $80,000.
Wood says the Terry Fox Foundation is known for putting a significant portion of donations directly towards research, with a lesser portion being used for staffing and promotional costs.
Kirstin Fox, Terry’s eldest niece, says although it’s called a ‘run’, it’s a very accessible and family friendly event that doesn’t need to involve running.
“You are more than welcome to come out and walk. You can ride your bike, you can rollerblade, you can bring your dog. All of our events are very family friendly. Bring your kids!”
The event starts at 11:00 with registration and a presentation in Delta Bessborough Gardens. The run itself, which has 3, 5, and 10 km options, will begin at noon, followed up by light snacks and refreshments.
