Hundreds of health care workers from CUPE 5430 descended on the office of MLA David Chan to highlight concerns in health care in Saskatchewan.
Canadian Union of Public Employees 5430 President Bashir Jalloh described it as a crisis in health care with union members working short, feeling disrespected and he says are leaving the health care profession.
In a news release, he said, “Bargaining has gone on long enough. It’s time for a fair deal.”
Health care workers took a break from the CUPE 5430 Annual General Meeting to rally after having been without a contract since March 2023 and say they haven’t had a raise in three-and-a-half years.
Sandee Michalchuk, an LPN who has worked in health care for over four decades said, “Our jobs are mentally and physically exhausting. Over the years patient needs have increased and so have our workloads.”
