It was another busy and exciting weekend for Huskie Athletics, kicking off Friday night with a massive 51-14 victory for the Football team in front of almost 10-thousand fans at Homecoming, plus the Women’s Soccer team setting a program record with 10 goals against Lethbridge Sunday afternoon. A recap on all three teams can be found below…
Huskies Football
Friday night at Griffiths Stadium was one to remember for the Saskatchewan Huskies as the seventh ranked Dogs hosted the eighth ranked U-B-C Thunderbirds, their first game against each other since last fall’s thrilling Canada West semifinal. This game would be a much different outcome as the Huskies stormed to a 51-14 victory to improve to 2-and-0 early in the season.
Anton Amundrud had a career game throwing for 443 yards and four touchdowns. Daniel Wiebe had a standout night as well with 190 receiving yards and two touchdowns on the night. The Huskies totaled 660 yards of offence while U-B-C managed 338 total yards. The next big test for the Huskies will be this Saturday on the road against the Manitoba Bisons.

Huskies Women’s Soccer
After a pair of unexpecting losses to begin the season last weekend, the Huskies bounced back strong with two big victories over the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns. Saturday afternoon was a little too close for comfort as the two teams were tied at one late before rookie Cassidy Vieira scored her first two career Canada West goals to lift the Huskies past Lethbridge 3-1. Despite the close score, the Dogs outshot Lethbridge 12-1 on the afternoon and led 28-2 on shot attempts.
Sunday afternoon, however, was a far more dominant performance, with the score reflecting it as Saskatchewan set a program record with 10 goals in a shutout victory. Eight different Huskies found the back of net while Madison Mayert and Isabelle Lachance had multi-goal performances. The Dogs had 17 shots on goal while Lethbridge came up empty with zero. With that, goalkeepers Kalin Roberts and Julie Snider had quiet afternoons splitting duties in net.

Saturday afternoon the Dogs drew to a 1-1 tie against MacEwan thanks to Makariy Pryadko scoring in the dying minutes of the game.
Sunday afternoon proved tougher, as the Alberta Golden Bears earned a 2-0 win over the Dogs. Goalkeeper Jaron Slopinski made seven saves on the afternoon as the Dogs were outshot 9-4. The Huskies gear up for a weekend road trip out West starting Friday night against the U-N-B-C Timberwolves.
