The self-proclaimed “Queen of Canada,” who had been living in a decommissioned Richmound school for two years prior to her arrest on Wednesday, made her first court appearance this (Fri) morning in Swift Current.
Romana Didulo, who was re-arrested yesterday (Thurs) appeared before Judge Alan Jacobson.
Reports from Swift Current says the 50-year-old consistently interrupted the judge, demanded her release, and said she “would only consent to a natural law trial.”
Jacobson explained the charges to Didulo, which were: one count, failing to comply with the undertaking condition and one count, intimidation of a justice system participant.
Didulo refused a lawyer and was remanded following her appearance. The Crown has requested an adjournment until Monday at 9:30 a.m. for a bail hearing.
Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan Public Health Authority has declared the former Richmound School unfit for habitation due to unsanitary conditions.
Posted at the front gate, a notice from the SPHA declared that the facilities were not connected to a lawfully operating sewage system. As such, in accordance with The Public Health Act, 1994, the building has officially been declared as unfit for habitation.
The notice posted also calls upon the owner of the building to remedy the deficiencies found within. The owner of the building, Ricky Manz of Richmound, appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court on Friday and is currently being held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing on Monday.
Residents occupying the former Richmound School had until the end of the day Friday, September 5, to evacuate the placarded areas of the premises. This order falls under Section 22(2) of The Public Health Act, 1994.
