The Saskatoon Police Service says police were called to an armed robbery just before 3 p.m. Thursday at a financial institution in the 200 block of 19th Street East. Police say a man had gone into the TD Bank, which is at that location, and threatened staff with an axe steeling an undisclosed amount of money and fleeing the area.
Officers reviewed video evidence and began searching for the suspect. Around 6:15 p.m. Thursday officers responded to a report of an intoxicated man in the 900 block of Main Street East. Police located a man lying on the ground with an open backpack containing a hatchet.
Police say the suspect and weapon matched that from the video evidence in the armed robbery.
A 46-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery and failure to comply with court-imposed conditions.
