It’s my Parting Shot for some Tuesday Tidbits…..
Welcome to the “Ber” months! You know, the ones that end in B-E-R and signify the changeover of the seasons from summer to autumn and, eventually, into winter. I know, I know – I felt the chill as well when I said that!!
Example “A” of a local favourite team, at least the majority in these here parts feel as though they are among their favourite team, making things more difficult than things needed to be is the Saskatchewan Roughriders! They were able to squeak out a victory in the Labour Day Weekend Classic on Saturday over Winnipeg – a badly-needed win, considering they looked horrific in Calgary, or was it that the Stampeders are just the best team in the C-F-L?! Regardless, the Green and White could’ve had a three-game, or six-point, lead atop the C-F-L West had they won in Cowtown. Instead, they pretty much have to win out in order to finish first in the division and have a bye into the West final because Calgary holds the tie-breaker and looks unbeatable. That said, the Riders should’ve been able to avoid needing a rare 112-yard interception return for two points in order to seal the deal over the Bombers on Sunday as the fourth quarter lapses reared their ugly head again! Plus, protect the football at all times – right Mario Alford!!
Example “B” of a local favourite team making things more difficult than they need to be is the Toronto Blue Jays! The bullpen is a big cause for concern right now as it constantly blows up in close ball games, with a penchant for surrendering the home run ball! I’m not sure who should be the closer or the eighth inning guy or any kind of role any longer. The Jays are now less than three games ahead of, both, the Yankees and Boston atop the American League East Division – and they visit the Yanks this weekend for three games that could knock them out of top spot! Luckily for them, A-L Central-leading Detroit has been stumbling of late and A-L West-leading Houston hasn’t caught up to either of them. First things first, Toronto needs to find a way to capture the A-L East pennant – then, considering their abysmal record in the Wild Card round in this decade, the Blue Jays have to hold one of the top two records in the American League to avoid the opening best-of-three round!! That’s it in a nutshell, folks – at least as I see it!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
