Huskie Athletics returned in full force over the Labour Day long weekend. Football erased an early 10-point deficit to defeat Alberta, while both soccer teams opened their seasons at home with close defeats.
Huskies Football
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies entered the 2025 Canada West season as the number one ranked team in the coach’s poll, and the nineth ranked team in U-SPORTS. The Dogs fell behind 10-0 early in the first quarter and went into the second half down 17-15, but the defence held Alberta to three-points in the second half as Saskatchewan completed the comeback to a decisive 29-20 victory.
Quarterback Anton Amundrud went 20-for-28 for 248 yards and a touchdown on the night, while Ryker Frank picked up where he left off last season with a receiving and rushing touchdown for a total of 159 yards on the night. Seth Hundeby even had the defence scoring points thanks to his pick-six.
