New data has come out about education in the province and the provincial opposition are concerned for students going back to school this year. Education in the province is not looking good according to Saskatchewan NDP who say Scott Moe and the provincial government are out of touch with what students, their parents and teachers need to have to be successful in their learning environment.
Matt Love Shadow Minster of Education says a new report came out from the Fraser Institute that shows Saskatchewan went from the highest inflation-adjusted per-student funding in 2013/14 of $18,518 to the seventh in 2022/23 of $15,774.
Love says the data mirrors what they hear from parents and teachers all the time about how the provincial government can’t properly support educating Saskatchewan’s students. “We’ve had parents join us in the legislature whose children are not allowed to attend school. They are being turned away because they don’t have supports in that school for those children to attend safely. That’s not a situation that anybody can feel good about.”
Love says the provincial government’s cuts to education has devastating implications. “The provincial government should be focused on our students who are our future leaders”.
