The RCMP detachments in Spiritwood Meadow Lake had a few opportunities to work with the provincial protection and response team this summer.
One of these instances occurred on June 28 when Spiritwood RCMP responded to a call involving a large group of twelve boaters and passengers stranded on Chitek Lake. The group called RCMP after boat trouble and bad weather left them stranded on the lake. Between the two RCMP teams, the party was able to be located, and everyone returned safely to shore.
In a separate incident, multiple reports of a stranded boat were phoned in to Spiritwood RCMP on July 8. When officers arrived at the lake, the boat was being towed by a member of the public. Officers assisted once on shore, and the boater remained unharmed.
The partnership was also called into action on June 30 regarding child reported missing to Meadow Lake RCMP.
Officers and Police Dog Services were joined by six conservation officers and numerous members of the public to search for the child, who was found 10 kilometers from their last known location.
In the end, Officer Kyle Cousins was able to hand the child over safely to Meadow Lake RCMP officers after they were located by a volunteer searcher.
