Members of the Bike Unit targeted
The Saskatoon Police Service says a 42-year-old Saskatoon man is facing a number of charges after two members of the Bike Unit were assaulted.
In a news release the police say their officers were patrolling the Meewasin Trail in the 100 block of Spadina Crescent East, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday when a male riding toward them on an electric dirt bike began accelerating toward the officers and hit them both before coming off of his electric bike.
He was taken into custody, and police say he had a taser, a baton and 5.3 grams of methamphetamine. The officers were not injured during the incident. The suspect suffered a minor injury and is now facing two counts each of Assault a Peace Officer, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants.
Sunday night stabbing
A 39-year-old Saskatoon man is being treated in hospital following an assault and stabbing Sunday night.
Around 9:30 p.m. police responded to a robbery in progress in the area of 22nd Street West and 1st Avenue.
A witness told officers that they saw three or four males in ski masks assaulting another male. The suspects and victim left the scene before police arrived.
Around 3 a.m. this morning officers responded to a report of an injured man lying in the street at 1st Avenue and 21st Street East. Upon arrival, they located a man suffering from a stab wound and matching the description of the victim in the earlier incident. He was transported to hospital where he is reportedly in stable condition.
Police are continuing to investigate.
