The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place during a Regina homicide investigation.
At about 10:00 a.m. last Friday, plainclothes members of the Regina Police Service observed a 29-year-old man on a bicycle who was wanted in connection with the investigation. Two officers approached him in the alley between Garnet Street and Athol Street north of 8th Avenue.
Police claim a confrontation took place between the two parties, and the members issued verbal commands to the male before one of them shot a single round from a service pistol, striking the man.
EMS arrived at the scene just five minutes later and pronounced the man dead by 10:19. A replica firearm was recovered from the scene. As part of the investigation, SIRT is asking anyone who directly witnessed or may have video of the incident to contact SIRT at sirt@gov.sk.ca.
