The Correctional Service Canada issued a news release Thursday in the wake of drug seizure at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary last week.
CSC says the drugs seized included methamphetamine, hashish and MDMA with the total estimated institutional value of these seizures estimated at $187,000.
The police have been notified, and the institution is investigating. The Saskatchewan Penitentiary is a multi-level federal prison.
The Correctional Service of Canada says it uses tools such as ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors in order to prevent drugs from entering the prison.
CSC says in addition to heightening measures to stop drugs from making its way into the institution, it has also set up a telephone tip line.
The toll-free number, 1-866-780-3784, helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous.
