Firefighters from Warman Fire & Rescue are in northern Saskatchewan fighting wildfires near Beauval. A recent update on social media indicates they are helping fight spot fires that continue to pop up around the perimeter of the community. Warman Engine 12 is currently leading a task force with firefighters from Leroy and Humboldt as well as firefighters from Australia.
Marlo Pritchard, President Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency in their most recent briefing, says it’s an active fire and they’ll have resources there as long as it’s required.
“There are a couple other fires in the area that are part of that complex that we are actively working on as well to ensure that they don’t pose further problems to Beauval or any of the other neighbouring communities. Work continues in that area so it’s not over because the fire was able to safely steer around.”
Meanwhile, a Community Resilience Centre has opened in Denare Beach where hundreds of homes were lost to the WOLF fire. It opens today from noon to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The government says residents will be able to access program information from a wide variety of organizations and agencies, ranging from the Saskatchewan Provincial Disaster Assistance Program, Saskatchewan Government Insurance, the Ministry of Social Services, the Saskatchewan Health Authority Mental Health Services and the Canadian Red Cross.
As of 5:30 a.m. Friday there are 51 active wildfires, 11 are not contained. There have been 378 fires so far this year which is quite comparable to last year when there were 377 in the same time frame however it is considerably more than the five-year average of 289. The SPSA is responding to nine evacuation incidents.
