Fireguards did the job and protected the northern village of Beauval from the “Muskeg” wildfire.
The blaze moved closer to the community—four hours northwest of Saskatoon—following an unexpected wind change Thursday afternoon.

The only loss was a small shed and a vehicle at a ball park.
Roberts is confident crews can keep the fire outside of Beauval—away from homes and businesses.
The remaining residents in Beauval were evacuated Thursday afternoon. Roberts says there are now 950 wildfire evacuees from six communities.
There are 57 active wildfires burning, including 14 not under control as of Friday afternoon. The most serious is the Muskeg wildfire near Beauval which covers 235,000 acres.
