The Shadow Minister for SaskWater is Erika Ritchie who says, in a statement, that she is saddened and frustrated that the Prairie Lily has cancelled its entire summer voyage schedule due to low water levels in the South Saskatchewan River.
She notes that the Prairie Lily is a major draw for tourism and provides massive economic benefit to Saskatoon, saying its absence this year will be felt deeply.
Ritchie also says many other groups are struggling whether it is business or sports clubs and that the NDP called on the Minister responsible to direct the Water Security Agency to consider releasing further water from the Gardiner Dam into the river. As well, the opposition has demanded an annual water flow management plan, and long-term protection measures for water.
The Prairie Lily Riverboat provides Sightseeing tours and Dinner Cruises on the South Saskatchewan River in the summer.
