The long streaks are over for the Saskatoon Berries following Saturday’s 6-4, 10-inning loss to the Regina Red Sox in front of 2,005 fans at Cairns Field.
The setback ended an 11-game winning run for the Berries and was their first loss of the season in 17 games on their home diamond. Regina scored three times in the top of the 10th inning to secure their 15th win of the season and their first in six tries against Saskatoon. The Berries were limited to six hits, but took advantage of two Red Sox errors to stay close in the well-pitched contest by both teams. Regina shortstop Matthew Fox had four hits and four R-B-I for the winners. Saskatoon’s overall record is 26-4 and they’ll try to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time this season when they visit the Red Sox Sunday, then come home for home games Monday and Tuesday against Moose Jaw at Cairns Field. Those games will end a run of 11 straight days of action. Following is Les Lazaruk’s post-game conversation with Berries’ head coach Joe Carnahan (pictured), plus the official box score courtesy the W-C-B-L website…..
