Several locations in Saskatchewan broke high temperature records for Thursday.
The highest temperature recorded in the province was Stony Rapids at 38.2 degrees, breaking the previous record of 35.4 set in 2013. The oldest mark broken for July 3 was in Swift Current where the thermometer reached 37.8 degrees, breaking the previous record of 36.7 set in 1895.
The largest margin of new high, compared to the previous one was in Wynyard. Their 35.9 degree temperature broke the previous record by 5.7 degrees at 30.2, set in 2013. Close behind was Waskesiu Lake with a 5.6 degree difference between their Thursday temperature of 35.3 degrees and the previous record of 29.7, set in 2013.
Other communities setting July 3 record high readings were Watrous, Yorkton, Weyburn and Uranium City. Environment Canada says the nine record highs from Thursday were part of a larger heat wave that saw 163 weather records broken in the province between June 27 and July 3. Both Saskatoon and Prince Albert reached highs of 30 degrees yesterday.
