Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting that led to the injury of a man on the Flying Dust First Nation.
On June 29th around 5:08 p.m., RCMP received a call from a young girl reporting that a family member was intoxicated and aggressive inside a home on the First Nation.
Two RCMP members arrived at the scene at 5:19 p.m. Almost immediately after arrival, they were confronted outside by the subject of the call, a 39-year-old man, who came toward them while holding a knife in each hand.
The officers told the man to drop the knife, but he continued to advance, causing one of the members to discharge two rounds from his service pistol. The man was struck in the torso, and he fell to the ground.
RCMP members provided first aid and contacted EMS, who responded to the scene and transported the man to hospital. The man was subsequently transported to hospital in Saskatoon by STARS Air Ambulance and remains in hospital in Saskatoon.
A final SIRT report will be issued to the public within 90 days of the investigation ending.
