A Saskatchewan man, who was already wanted on an outstanding Canada Border Services Agency warrant, has been arrested by the Winnipeg Police Service on a charge of sexual assault.
On Saturday, Winnipeg’s Sex Crimes Unit received the report of a sexual assault in Windsor Park. With the assistance of surveillance video, police learned that at 12:45 a.m. that day, a woman had come out of an establishment and was waiting for her friend to exit behind her, when an unknown man followed her out of the building. He then led her to some nearby bushes and sexually assaulted her.
Police say the woman screamed for help until 911 was called while the male suspect fled the scene. The victim was then taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Investigators later identified the suspect, and he was arrested that evening. Twenty-nine-year-old Miguel Villa Ramirez was detained in custody.
