It’s my Parting Shot for Week 5 C-F-L picks from T-F-P, a-k-a The Fearless Predictor…..
For a fourth straight week, there was a “3” and a “1” in the prognostication ledger – however, for the first time, the numbers were reversed in Week 4 from Weeks 1 through 3 – meaning a need to recover this time around!
The new week starts tonight with 3-0 Winnipeg at 2-1 Calgary. Those records are somewhat surprising to some people. For me, I don’t see the Stampeders as a playoff team, yet they’ve won games without the benefit of a touchdown pass thrown by big-money free agent signing – at least by C-F-L money standards – Vernon Adams Junior. I’m not surprised that the Blue Bombers are looking like a championship contender – again!! I’m going with the visitors by less than a touchdown!
Friday Night Football has 1-2 Hamilton in 1-3 Toronto. Both teams won for the first time last week, which was desperately needed in both cases. The Argonauts are still without Chad Kelly, but Nick Arbuckle really isn’t a major drop-off at quarterback. Still, I’m taking the Tiger-Cats by less than a field goal!
Saturday’s game has 1-3 B-C at 3-1 Montreal. The Lions looked good in beating Edmonton in the first week. Let’s keep in mind two things with that – one, the Elks are the C-F-L’s only winless team and Nathan Rourke, who was the quarterback in Week 1, has only played a couple of quarters since and was limited in practice in each of two practice days so far this week. The Alouettes lost without freshly-minted franchise quarterback Davis Alexander last week and McLeod Bethel-Thompson doesn’t do it for me! Alexander has been limited so far this week. Another battle of back-ups, possibly, goes the home team’s way. Als by more than a touchdown!
That leaves Sunday’s 1-3 Ottawa going to 0-3 Edmonton contest, a battle of two teams who may be the biggest disappointments so far – along with B-C, Hamilton and Toronto! Take your pick!! As for picking a winner here, the Elks seem to have an aversion to winning at Commonwealth Stadium, but the time has come for them to win a game just like everyone else in the C-F-L so far! Edmonton prevails by more than a field goal!
Last week’s 1-3 means T-F-P is 10-6 overall for the season, or 62-and-a-half per cent! Better than last year, but not great – meaning an above .500 week is required!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
