The second wave of wildfires in Saskatchewan appears to have levelled off some.
As of 5:30 a.m. Friday, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) reported 65 active wildfires in the province – slightly higher than earlier in the week with 20 of those blazes considered to be not contained. To date this year, Saskatchewan has had 335 wildfires, well above the five-year average of 195.
Five communities are under an evacuation order – Northern Settlement of Bear Creek, Resort Subdivision of Lac La Plonge, Northern Village of Beauval, Kinoosao and La Plonge First Nations.
In their news release, the SPSA says they are offering retroactive food security support for those communities supported by the S-P-S-A, where the residents are not staying in SPSA provided hotels. The agency will provide to those that qualify, $40 per day for the head of household, plus $20 for each additional member up to a maximum of $200 daily.
