The provincial NDP is calling on the Government of Saskatchewan to begin rebuilding the province’s north following a rough start to the wildfire season.
A written release from the NDP states that the party has received reports of evacuees sleeping in cars and tents after losing their homes and businesses. It also says there are reports of people having not received any financial support while racking up charges for food and accommodation away from their homes.
The NDP suggest a plan be made to urgently restore these people’s lives, focusing on several critical areas like providing medium-term housing, housing for construction workers tasked with rebuilding in remote areas, proper and fair procedures for demolition and safe disposal of the waste associated with properties destroyed by fire, and immediate assistance from Crowns to help with fees and costs of rebuilding utility services like power, phone, and internet lines.
