It was the closest to a home diamond loss this season, except the Saskatoon Berries were able to rally for an 8-7 victory in 10 innings over the Moose Jaw Miller Express Wednesday night at Cairns Field.
Saskatoon trailed 7-5 going into the bottom of the ninth, but tied the game on a walk, a single, a stolen base plus throwing error and a pair of sacrifice flies to force extra frames. Then, after Saskatoon product Colin Plain stranded Moose Jaw’s courtesy runner on third base in the top of the 10th inning, right fielder Evan Janner (pictured) lined the second pitch he saw from Miller-Express losing pitcher Nathan Pisio into left field to drive in courtesy runner Mason Roell from second base with the winning run. The Berries are now 15-0 for the season at Cairns Field, have won a season-high nine straight games and have won all three head-to-head meetings with Moose Jaw as their overall record improved to 24-3. Saskatoon got off to a good start in front of 1,593 fans, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after four innings. But, the 12-16 Miller-Express put up five runs in the fifth inning to take a lead they held until the Berries’ desperate ninth inning comeback. Saskatoon is back in action Thursday night when they welcome the Weyburn Beavers to Cairns Field at 7 o’clock. Following are Les Lazaruk’s post-game interviews with Berries’ head coach Joe Carnahan, Janner and Plain plus the official box score courtesy the W-C-B-L website…..
