While kids are officially on summer vacation, a reminder from the City of Saskatoon that school and playground zones are in effect year-round.
School and playground zones with posted 30 kilometre per hour speed limits are in effect year-round, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
Motorists are advised that where school and playground signs do not include a posted speed limit, treat the sign as a caution. You do not have to reduce speed in these areas. However, it is important to stay alert.
The penalty for speeding in a school zone starts at $170 with additional fines for every kilometre over the speed limit. The penalty for speeding in playground zones is the same as any other speeding offense, with fines starting at $100.
U-turns are not permitted in school zones around elementary or high schools.
